The Retreat Center & Rooms

Yoga Studio with Ocean Views

Hawaii Island Retreat's eco-boutique hotel and wellness spa is a place of intentional peacefulness, set among towering evergreens and ocean breezes along Hawaii Island's North Kohala coast. When you visit Hawaii Island Retreat you quickly realize the wonder of our sacred land. Here, you can relax and unwind on 50+ oceanfront acres of gardens, wild groves and ancient valley trails. The hotel, bungalows and yurts offer elegant accommodations in harmony with nature.

Things to know: this is an eco-retreat focused on connection to nature and self. This means no air conditioning (generally the trade winds provide ample cooling during February), no TVs in rooms and wifi limited to the common areas. This is an amazing opportunity to unplug and truly relax and is intentionally different than that you’d expect at a typical “resort.”

Frequent Asked Questions

How do I get to the retreat & when should I arrive?
If you’re flying from Seattle, a number of airlines offer nonstop flights daily to and from Kona International Airport. The drive from Kona to the retreat center is just around an hour. We recommend checking in late afternoon on the 20th, but there is no hard arrival time and we can work with your flight times.

We also recommend renting a car for the week so you have the opportunity to explore the many wonders of the Big Island. A great option is to share a rental with two or three other retreat participants. We’re happy to help match you up with other folks looking to share a car.

Are there other activities or services I can add on to the retreat?
Spa services (massage, facials and body treatments) are available at the retreat center as are Hawaiian cultural activities like lei making and learning hula dance.

While Flight Room will not be officially organizing any outside activities, Jen is very familiar with the Big Island and is more than happy to make suggestions for things to do. (hint: we’ll be there during peak whale watching season!)

The Big Island has SO MANY amazing things to see and do (many of them free), which is why we highly recommend renting a car either alone or with other attendees. Once you have registered for the retreat, you will be added to our Slack workspace where you’ll get to meet other participants and can plan outings together. And if you want to mostly hang out at the retreat and drink in the quiet and beauty there, that’s an amazing option as well.

I want to attend with a friend/partner. How do I register for two people?
Please submit one form for each attendee and include a note that you will be rooming together. If you’d like to be billed together, please make a note of that as well.

What will the daily classes be like and when are they scheduled?
We will offer one mat-based practice each day in a variety of styles, from vinyasa to restorative to yin as well as some fitness formats like a bodyweight barre class. All classes will be accessible for all levels of practice.

How are the semi-private aerial yoga sessions scheduled?
The smaller studio accommodates up to four to five students for an aerial yoga class (depending on class format.) Each retreat guest will be able to schedule a minimum of one aerial class each day (or more if space allows.) We will offer a variety of styles from flow to restorative to yin to power over the course of the week and you’ll sign-up for your sessions in advance. You will also be able to add-on 1-on-1 private aerial yoga sessions if you’d like (a retreat is a great opportunity to deepen your practice!)

Can I bring in outside food and beverages? What about food restrictions/allergies?
You’re welcome to bring snacks for your room (being mindful to store so that they won’t attract bugs) and nonalcoholic beverages to enjoy at the retreat. Because of the center’s food/beverage permit, all alcohol must be purchased through the retreat center. Beer and wine are available for purchase at dinner but otherwise alcohol must be consumed offsite (ie: no cocktails at the pool.) There are a number of cafes and restaurants within a 10 minute drive in Hawi and Kapaau.

The center is happy to work with all guests re: any food restrictions so please let Jen know if you need any accommodations there.

What if I don’t know anyone else attending the retreat?
Most of our retreat attendees register as individuals and are not traveling with a friend or partner, so you’ll be in good company. If you’re reserving a shared room, we will take care of matching you with another student traveling alone. One of the biggest benefits of the retreat experience is meeting new friends!

What is the cancellation policy?
Cancellations (for any reason, including Covid concerns) made more than 90 days before arrival are fully refundable less the $300 deposit. Cancellations made between 31 and 89 days are 50% refundable and cancellations made 30 days or less before arrival are not refundable.

I have other questions.
